The contributions of the Sidney Chamber of Commerce and its membership to the Sidney area community
are being recognized by the Sidney Village Mayor Jim Warren who signed a proclamation declaring September 26-30, 2005 as Chamber of Commerce Week in the Village of Sidney.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce is an active organization devoted not to promoting individual member businesses and services but the overall economy of the area. They initiate and support
efforts to improve the community and to encourage its orderly growth.
The chamber sponsors many community events including the Ed Wessels Memorial Canoe Regatta in May, The Arts and Music Festival in July, the Golf Tournament in August, the Fallabration in October and
Jolly Holly Days in December.
In March, the chamber holds a new member coffee hour to officially welcome all members who have joined during the year and in June the chamber holds their annual dinner meeting when they make their
Business and Citizen of the Years awards.
Members can take part in seminars and training programs or professional development, showcase their business at a regular meeting, and take advantage of competitive health insurance through member agencies.
They are able to network with local member businesses and community leaders, gain exposure through business and chamber listings, obtain referrals through the chamber office and gain prestige as a member of a repectful organization.
The chamber meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30am at a member business. The chamber operates under a board of directors, this year headed by Greg Hitchcock as president, but count on the support
of its members to carry out their many activities and projects.
The chamber is fortunate to have an attractive and easily accessible office located at 24 River Street, Sidney, NY. The office is staffed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9am-4pm by chamber secretary, Carol Allen.
In addition to their regular membership, this year the chamber initiated a new level of chamber membership called "Friends of the Chamber". This level is basically for retired business people, non-business people and
those who want to show their support for the chamber and their community.
